Hear from 3 of our wonderful graduates who successfully side hustle their Hypnobirthing businesses alongside their day job whilst raising families too. You will find insights, tips and inspiration if you are considering teaching Hypnobirthing as a way of making an extra income too.
We have many graduates who have trained with us that teach Hypnobirthing as their main career, however we also have plenty of instructors that continue their other careers and use Hypnobirthing as a way to earn extra money each month, whilst also pursing their passion for spreading the positive birth word.
Katie, Rhiannon and Tessa share their experience of teaching Hypnobirthing as a side hustle. They tell us how they manage it alongside their main job, and the transformative impact it has had on both their own lives and the expectant parents that they teach.
A primary school teacher of 10 years, who wanted to explore other ways that she could earn extra money but also have something for herself, something that lit a spark within her and she found that when she decided to teach about a topic that she was passionate about, positive birth!
Rhiannon tells us that she had so many transferable skills from her career as a school teacher that it was a 'no brainer' to go on and train to become a hypnobirthing teacher. After witnessing first hand herself, the transformation that hypnobirthing made to her own births, it really made so much sense to her to train to become a hypnobirthing teacher.
Teaching 3 days a week in a school, raising her 2 children and teaching hypnobirthing, it might seem like a lot but Rhiannon tells how she does it, here she shares her 4 biggest tips with us:
1. Block out time for your business - I spend one day a month doing admin – scheduling social media posts/writing blogs/sorting accounting – so those things don’t feel like everything I’m doing.
2. Only schedule courses. that work for you - I only schedule courses/clients when it works for me and my family. My time is limited and that’s ok. I also have very realistic expectations around what I can fit in and what that means for my business’ profitability month on month.
3. Set clear boundaries - I would advise having clear boundaries in place – whether that’s around family time or ring fencing your business’ time. When you’re working on your business, step into CEO mode and make sure you are prioritising that.
4. Find a balance - When you’re with your family, step away from your phone/laptop and trust that you’ve spent the time on your business and can leave it alone now. That way, you can show up 100 per cent for your business and also for your family when it’s family time.
Rhiannon goes on to tells us that one day she hopes able to increase my flexibility around my day job but she is realistic about knowing this won’t happen overnight. In fact, she is happy that her hypnobirthing business is working for her as a side hustle, she states:
"It’s giving me what I wanted it to – something for me that I enjoy and that helps people."

Working as a busy civil servant leading a team, Tessa wanted to pursue her passion of teaching hypnobirthing and pregnancy yoga whilst also having a steady income from her day job where she worked part time after the birth of her son.
Tessa told us that teaching hypnobirthing alongside her day job was the 'perfect balance'. After using hypnobirthing herself during lockdown when her baby was born, Tessa talks about how the visualisations and relaxation techniques transformed her approach to birth and pregnancy.
Preparation is key and finding small pockets of time during her day, grabbing an hour here and there especially when her son is sleeping is what makes it work for Tessa.
Being strict with your time and not allowing either job to take over your free time is also important to Tessa. Having a routine and being strict with it really helps her to make sure that she is being productive with her time.
We are proud here at Love Your Birth that we provide graduates with the training they need to become a hypnobirthing teacher but also with the skills and resources they need to start their business up straight away.
Tessa told us:
"The support from Abby and the tools the course gives you are great - I felt so much more confident on things like social media and marketing from day one. And there's so much content there that you can be prepared to start from the kick off!"
Whilst some of our graduates have big plans to teach hypnobirthing as their full time career in the future, Tessa is currently happy knowing that her side hustle is what allows her to stay working part time in her day job which means she can do the school run and attend events at school, something that is so important to her.

A fellow school teacher, who works full time alongside training to become a hypnobirthing teacher.
Just like Rhiannon, Katie also used Hypnobirthing during the birth of 2 of her children and witnessed first hand how amazing the techniques are during labour. Katie even goes on to say:
"After having my third child, I felt so empowered from the positive birth experience I had. When I spoke about my births, people thought I was on commission for a birthing company. This planted the idea in my head about training to become a hypnobirthing teacher and never went away."
Katie told us that she was sick of helplessly trying to convince people that didn't have to be a scary experience, she wanted to make a difference and to help women feel empowered during their labours, just like she did. So she took the plunge and decided to train with us to become a hypnobirthing teacher.
We understand here at LYB that your time is precious, especially if you have a family but both Rhiannon and Katie make it work in their own ways. Katie told us that it's like being a super hero but the one thing that she finds most useful is supportive family who help her to continue loving and teaching hypnobirthing.
Eventually Katie hopes to make teaching hypnobirthing her sole income and focus, she feels so passionate about helping as many couples as possible to have a positive birth experience.
She told us "I trained as a hypnobirthing teacher, whilst working full time as a teacher and have three children 5 and under. If I can do that, anyone can train! It is the best job for flexibility around your current work and family."
